Series I Demo with Urethane Leg

Thoroughbred Leg for Series I Demonstration

Here is a method to demonstrate the Series I shoe when you don’t have a horse or want to do an indoor, small room demo.
-- This urethane leg is an accurate, full-scale sculpture of a Thoroughbred leg by CLAYTON BRIGHT (shown here).
-- The hoof is sized for a Series I size 0.5 (S+) Elite shoe.

Protect the model’s hoof wall with stretch-wrap   Prep the leg with Co-flex wrap and black vinyl tape.

Use several layers of the stretch wrap to cover the hoof wall, heels and bottom of the hoof. This protective film will allow you to easily remove the shoe after the demonstration is complete and the cure finished.

Prep shoe by cutting fabric at an angle from heels.  No shaping of shoe is required.

Use 2+ ounces of acrylic adhesive for the demo.

First -- put a thin coating on the hoof wall & then completely saturate both layers of the fabric cuff.

Before applying the shoe to the leg, wipe the excess adhesive from the rim pad flat. There should be no adhesive applied to the bottom of the hoof (on the demo hoof or on your horse.

Place the shoe on the hoof and smooth cuff

Wrap the cuff & shoe with stretch wrap

There should be 20+ layers of stretch wrap applied.

The stretch wrap is used to secure the shoe firmly in place, hold in the heat to accelerate adhesive cure and, finally, deliver a smooth, hard surface on the finished cuff.
Practice makes perfect!

After ~ 8-10 minutes, remove the stretch wrap

Remove the black tape

Finished Series I shoe application

Start to remove shoe by cutting cuff with a sharp utility knife

Remove cuff by using a shoe puller to peel the cuff starting from the heel

The shoe is removed as the final step in the Series I product demonstration.

Note: This photo was taken after we removed the cuff on first trial. In spite of using a release agent on the urethane leg, the acrylic adhesive stuck to the urethane hoof. This is why we changed the process and suggest covering the hoof wall with stretch wrap before demonstrations. Amazing -- we coated the hoof with a thin layer of Vaseline and the acrylic STILL was able to grab the urethane surface.
Use the stretch wrap to protect the hoof wall on the demo leg BEFORE you apply the shoe.
